An Unforgettable Summer Getaway Ocean Adventure in Tenerife
27 Mar 2024
If you ask anyone what they would like to do in their summer holidays, they will always say that they would like to head out to the beaches. And if you ask them what part of the world they would like to visit in summer, they will say Spain or Greece. Tenerife will also be in the minds of some of them, having heard about it from those they know or having seen programs on television about it. If you ask travel agents for more details, you will be told that it is the largest island in the archipelago of the Canary Islands, a Spanish territory surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean. It is closer to Morocco than it is to Spain, so you can expect influences of diverse cultures. This island has a few small towns, each with different types of sights to admire.
A lot to see and do
Yes, most tourists come here for the beaches and if you are not comfortable swimming, you can hire a boat and see the various sea creatures, large and small. If you have some more time you can even explore the interiors of these islands, which have some green mountain ranges. Some towns here will send you a few centuries back with the architecture of an era long gone. You can admire the architecture of residential areas and churches, by walking around them. There are some parts of the city with murals, and these will be something different from what you are used to.
Something to bite on
If vineyards and wine-tasting interest you, this is the right destination for you with over 10 labels of wines produced here. You can see the farms where the grapes are grown and if you want to see the process, there will be tours for this too, at the end of which you will get to taste some fresh produce. You can even go to see the banana plantations, another popular product of these islands. If you are curious about what is cooked here, you can be part of cooking classes. There are more than a few very good restaurants here and the seafood is served here in abundance. You can go to some high up in the mountains or to those next to the beaches, so you will have good sights to enjoy as you get stuck into your meal.
Days full of activities
There is even an adventure park that your young ones will enjoy. If you are up for some grown-up sports, you can try paragliding and see everything that the island has from a height. One place that you will come across when you are suggested this destination is the volcano, which is close to the center of this island. You will be able to see the volcano from a distance and walk over the dried volcanic lava with ash. Some people will even stay up late at the beaches and other parts of the island for stargazing. You can also choose a spot for watching the sunset to its fullest.
Need some assistance
There are tour operators for all the major tourist spots and activities. Some offer tours to Mt. Teide where the volcano and its desert-like surroundings are. They will even guide you and help you catch cable cars over parts of this area. You can even join gastronomy tours which can take a few hours or a whole day. Every one of them has something different to offer and they offer tours of varying lengths. If you are after a souvenir, you will find plenty of carpets and paintings to take back home with you. You will find shops for these in the major malls and the old markets. If carnivals interest you, there is one here in February every year.
The practical part of your trip
To get here you will have the option of flying to 2 airports, Tenerife North–Ciudad de La Laguna Airport and Tenerife South Airport, both welcome millions of passengers every year. A lot of European tourists come here when it is winter in their part of the world. Though the temperatures here are pleasant all around the year. You can even come here for your summer break, though the airfare and how you can get here, often help you decide. Still, tourists are welcome here all year round. Tourism is a major part of the economy here and there are all types of accommodations for you. If you are here for a luxury holiday there are 5-star holidays close to the beaches. As for moving around the city, you can always hire cabs and if you are physically fit you can always rent bikes to travel along the cycling lanes. There are trams and buses too, which you can use if their stops are on the routes you are interested in.
