African Americans have a long history in the country, almost as long as those of the European settlers, though their roles have been very different and still are. When the Europeans came to the new world, they found vast lands to occupy, and for farms, they needed assistance, for which they brought slaves from Africa. Today, the culture of the descendants of the slaves is very different, which does not resemble that of any African country at present.
