Go On a Foodie Adventure in Thailand to Taste the Difference
11 Jan 2024
If you live in one of the major metropolitan cities in the USA or Canada, you will have come across Thai restaurants. Most of you will be used to Chinese restaurants and aware of some of the items from the cuisine. However, there are not many Thai restaurants even in the larger cities which have a large population of migrants from Thailand. Most people who come to the Western world come looking for a life different from what they are used to while others stick to their tradition, living life the same way as they did in their country. Hospitality is a major industry in Thailand and several youngsters have traveled to countries all over the world and started their eateries, some of which have gained popularity with the local population. All of them will be catching flights and getting a taste of a life of a different kind before they land in a different country onboard.
Get to the source
The USA has changed a lot in the last half a century, especially in terms of what the people here eat and drink every day. Different parts of the country have developed appetites for different types of food, with Asian food available in every Chinatown present in various large cities. They also have a large number of people who want to explore the various corners of the world and for various reasons. Some of these are foodies who want to taste authentic food and they will not shy away to travel to a country once they like the items from their cuisine. Thailand has been looking to invite more tourists to boost the economy and these eateries in the Western world are as good an advertisement as any in the world.
Start with flights to Thailand
So, you have liked the Thai food you tasted at the local restaurant and you will be wondering what it would be like to taste these items at a restaurant in Thailand. You could also have a friend or a relative who has been to this country and recommended what they got served. Whatever the reason may be, you will be excited to get to this country and willing to start your adventure. This should be the starting point, but it’s always best to know the reasons why someone would travel such long distances. Thailand is a large country, though of the size of the large states of the USA. Like every country in the world, the major international airport is in the capital of the country, Bangkok. There are others at Phuket and Chiang Mai, which are popular holiday destinations too.
Not too heavy on the pocket
So, firstly you will need to choose the destination and secondly, you will have to book flights to get there. The less you spend on your airfare to Bangkok, the more you will have to spend on food and accommodation in Bangkok. You should note that direct flights to Bangkok are available from a few large airports in the country, so you will need to get here to get further. Once you touchdown in this Thai city, you will be pleased to find people communicating in your language, though in very different accent. If you have not booked your accommodation yet, tell the cab driver what your budget is and he will take you to a suitable one.
A thrilling experience in every way
Now once you are well settled, comfortable and relaxed, the time starts to explore what the world outside has to offer. Different parts of these cities serve food differently. There will be street carts with what is called street food, eateries with good enough places to sit and fine dining restaurants. The Michelin star restaurants can be found in all major cities of this country. You can choose these according to your budget. For this you can seek the assistance of a guide who will be more than willing to take you to different parts of the city, you just need to tell them what kind of an area you are looking for. You can even attend some cooking classes, which may involve collecting the ingredients fresh from the local market. You will even find markets that have just eateries that locals frequent, though tourists are always welcome.
A tasteful journey
Now, once you have started, you may or may not like what you are offered. If what you are served matches your expectations, excellent otherwise, you can try another eatery serving the same item. Food is generally not expensive, so you can experiment a lot with what little you have. However, we are sure you will not be disappointed and want to come back to this country for more such trips. Usually, you will have taken note of the items you want to be served and you will be asking the guide to help you find an eatery that serves Thai spring rolls or Thai fish cakes or Pad Thai or yellow curry or green curry or red curry and others. They will know and if they don’t they will ask around for you. One way or another you will get an appetizing trip of the city you are in.
Your purpose will be served
If you have always wanted to travel to an Asian country, you will have several options in front of you and you will definitely get to taste delicacies from their cuisine. But if you are a foodie you will want to travel to different parts of the world not just to see but to taste and smell too.
