The Reasons Why You Would Catch Red Eye Flights
14 Mar 2024
Flying is a different experience for different people, some enjoy it to the hilt while others dread it. If you are traveling over long distances for example to another country, you will have no option but to fly unless you are willing to spend a lot of time traveling over land or sea. Most of you will prefer to catch flights in the morning after having had a sumptuous breakfast and reach the destination before evening. However, there are times when you may not be able to book these flights due to unavailability, and in that case, you will have the Red Eye Flights.
What is considered a Red Eye flight?
These are the flights that take off and land at the time when most people will be in their beds, sleeping. There will usually be a few empty seats on these, so you can stretch a little more or stretch enough to sleep comfortably with more empty seats. You can try the business class seats if you want a comfortable bed to sleep on, as the seats are extended into relaxing beds. With fewer people around, you will have greater privacy and you will be more at ease with no one to bother you. You should opt for overnight flights when you are sure that you will be able to sleep properly or else you will be reaching the destination red-eyed. Several airlines will offer sleep masks too for these flights, so you can fall asleep more easily.
What time are the Red Eye flights?
Any flight taking off after 10 pm and reaching the destination before 6 am can be classified as a red-eye flight. Business passengers prefer these flights as they will not be losing on the working hours. There are holidaymakers too who will opt for these flights if they are on a one or two-day trip, so they have more time to have fun at the tourist destination. You should wear clothes that you will be comfortable in for some hours and avoid drinks that will keep you awake for some time, like coffee which has a large amount of caffeine in it.
Why do some passengers prefer Red Eye flights?
If you have at least one experience of flying with these flights, you will have some experience of the advantages and disadvantages they offer. In terms of plus points, there will be a smaller crowd at the airports. As not many people are willing to fly at this time, these flights will be relatively cheaper. Air ticket prices are what makes more people catch late night flights than anything else. There will be less traffic on the roads, so you can be dropped off easily at the airport. And the same goes for public transport if available. You should choose the mode of transport that will make sure that you reach the airport ready for a long journey.
Make use of the time zones
Different countries fall in different time zones and so do the states in the USA, which is a large country with the Pacific Ocean on one side and the Atlantic Ocean on another. So you can take advantage of this fact and reach the destination at the times convenient to you. For instance, if you are leaving from Miami, which is on the east coast for Los Angeles which is on the west coast, and 3 hours behind in terms of the time, if you leave at 3 in the morning from Miami you will be in Los Angeles at 6 in the same morning after a 6-hour flight. Similarly, you can calculate the time you will be getting to the destination and book Red Eye flights accordingly.
Some choices you should make
Your eyes will get really red if you have stopovers on the way, especially when you have to catch connecting flights on the way. This will make you do things when you will prefer being asleep. So, you should choose direct Red Eye flights if you want to sleep as much as you can. Unless, you want to save money, in which case you will have to stay awake and make some effort while others sleep. You should also try to make sure that your seats are not in the part of the aircraft that passengers will pass by frequently, disturbing you while you try to rest.
Conclusion
If you are wondering why there are flights this late, you should know that airlines don’t want to pay too much for their stay at the airports. The same goes for the passengers catching these flights. There are also things you can do to travel more comfortably, even at these odd hours.
