Top Tips for Choosing the Perfect Holiday Accommodation
14 Aug 2024
There are many aspects to your holidays and the accommodation will be an important one. No matter where you go or for how long you go there, you will need a place to stay or to set up your base. The size of accommodation you will need will depend on the size and type of your group. The kind of accommodation you will be looking for will often be decided by your holiday budget. You could be going for your annual holidays or your summer vacation or you could be looking for adventure in distant lands. In any case, if you are able to get a bargain for your shelter you will have good sums left for other activities. If you are planning a multi-city trip, you will need to book spaces to stay in all of them.
The variety of accommodation
Some accommodations can often decide your holiday destination for you. For instance, the bungalows over the sea will make you consider Maldives for your Honeymoon holidays. You will always want to find your lodging close to where the action will be i.e. a place close to where the activities you are interested in will take place. Here we give details of the variety of accommodations you can choose between.
Hotels
This is the type most common type of accommodation that you will associate with your holidays. These come in all shapes and sizes, with rooms of different sizes with attached washrooms. Within one hotel you will find rooms which are categorized in as many ways, as many hotels are out there. What you get will depend on what you wish to pay. It’s always best to pre-book your rooms and in these days of the internet, you can book these online with most hotels having an online presence. You need not worry about anything and all you need to do is come and relax here.
Bed and Breakfast
Most of such establishments are not large in size, some of them are homes converted so as to be suitable for the stay of visitors. Here you will find rooms of the size in any home of the country you are visiting and you will be served breakfast, the cost of which will be included in what are paying per day for your room. Mostly these are owned by families who also look after the housekeeping side of things. You will find these usually in small towns and in villages.
Resort
The most common types of resorts that people come across are beach resorts and you will find plenty of them in the Caribbean or Central American nations that have popular cities for tourists. These will be next to the beaches, so you don’t have to travel too far to swim or sunbathe, for which they will provide beach umbrellas and there will be relaxing chairs under them. There will often be pools, a number of eateries offering items from different cuisines, gyms, and valet parking, so you will find everything you need in one place. They often offer free pickup and drop from the airports. Some will be close to golf courses, so you can expect the charges to be on the higher side.
Apartments
If you are going on a long holiday, the accommodations that charge you on a per-day basis can be very expensive. So, for you, there are apartments that you can rent on a weekly or monthly basis. These will be like any other apartment, with furnished rooms, kitchen, and washrooms. The housekeeping services will be optional and you will have to pay for these. You will be expected to leave the apartment in the same condition that it was in when you first entered it.
Hostels
If you don’t have much to spend on your holidays, hostels will be just right for you. There are hostels for the youth and there are some run by Christian associations. Here if you come alone, you may have to share your room with someone. These are the choice of accommodations for most backpackers. These are also offered to volunteers who come to help locals in developing countries through a charity organization. You will get to meet new people here and for food, you will need to find eateries close by.
Campsite
If you have a camping holiday on your mind or if you go camping regularly, you may have your tents ready with you or you will be able to rent these on a campsite. A campsite is an open area where you can set up camps with others. These can be paid unless you are in a remote area, in which case you can choose the right place to pitch your tent without worrying about paying anyone. Here you will get no help, generally and you will have to do everything yourself including cooking and cleaning. You may go on a camping holiday in the mountains or the national parks. In some cases, you may need to be careful with any wildlife that resides in the area you are holidaying in.
Cabins
You will find these mostly in the countryside, the log cabin variety is what you will come across mostly in the USA. Usually, these will be in idyllic settings with no other man-made structure for miles. You may have these next to a lake or in mountain valleys. These will be perfect for those who want to get away from the noise and crowds in their cities. You may need to burn logs here to heat your accommodation. These will have a main hall and other rooms and these can even be one-story structures. These will always have attached kitchens and washrooms.
Villa
There are some destinations that will have villas to offer to you and these are booked by those on luxury holidays. These are one-story buildings and there will be a few close by. You will have a small garden in front and there will be furnished rooms. These are often close to the beaches so you have some good views from the bedroom. There will be housekeeping services and you will need to hire a cab to travel to explore other parts of your destination for activities that you have come here for. There will be a kitchen though most people who can afford to rent these will have enough dosh for daily visits to restaurants. In some destinations, you will even find overwater villas, though these are mostly wooden structures. As these are large in size, you will find them ideal for your family vacations.
Houseboats
As the name suggests these are boats that double up as houses. These can be stationary when you want them to and you can make them float over water too. In the Western countries, you will find them over canals or rivers, while in other parts of the world like India, you will find these over lakes too. These will usually be wooden, though the modern ones are of different materials and come with engines. These come in all shapes and sizes, with enough room for a few people to celebrate their holidays differently. These are often chosen by couples to have some romantic time together.
Holiday Cottage
There are some people who will have preferences for the same destination every year for their holidays. So, instead of paying for different accommodations every year, they will purchase a holiday home which can be a cottage in the case of Europe. You can even rent it out while you are away and you will have to manage everything you do here yourself. So, you must get it cleaned before you arrive here, so you may have someone to look after it. You will need to make all the arrangements when you arrive, so these will usually be afforded by wealthy persons.
Conclusion
Different destinations across the world offer different kind of accommodations and you will choose one according to your requirements. It’s best to find out what you will be paying for before you go through the payment process. If you research well you will be able to find your shelter for much less than what others will be paying for it. In some cases, you may even wish to pay more than what you can afford just for the unique experience. So, go ahead and make a choice!
